Visual Art: Painter
Welcome to the World of Queen Artistry
“African art is functional, it serves a purpose. It’s not a dormant. It’s not a means to collect the largest cheering section. It should be healing, a source a joy. Spreading positive vibrations.” –Mos Def
Who am I? I am a daughter, sister, aunt, god sister, god mother, friend, educator, lifelong learner, fighter, mentor, mentee, Christian, sinner, believer, achiever, artist, and so much more.
Langston Hughes once wrote, “I am a Negro: Black as the night is black, Black like the depths of my Africa.”
I have loved art since I was a young child. It was a way for me to express my thoughts and emotions when I could not articulate them out loud. When I began college at the University of South Florida, I stopped drawing and gave up an important part of myself. I started painting in May 2016 because I need a way to express myself once again. Because of my love for African-inspired artwork, I decided to create my own. I currently produce paintings on canvases with various acrylic-based mediums and more. What started as my favorite hobby and stress reliever is now my business. Through the support of my family and friends my business grew and grew. Thank you for supporting my Artistry. –Kandice L. Hill
