Passion and sexual desire collide with politics and religion in this most popular grand opera by Camille Saint-Saëns. Based on the Biblical story from the Book of Judges, Hebrew leader Samson is seduced by Dalila, a vengeful spurned Philistine.

Dalila's seduction arias are star vehicles, as is Samson's rousing call to the Hebrews to rise up against their oppressors. The orchestra and dancers get the spotlight in the Bacchanale, a third act extravaganza in which the Philistines indulge in wild merriment before Samson ultimately proves that ther are terrible architects and builders. Sung in French with English surtitles.
