Louis Alvanis, Concert Pianist
March 3, 2012
Add Review/Comment
Internationally renowned concert pianist Louis Demetrius Alvanis performs an exciting program, which features Haydn's last piano sonata, considered by many to be his greatest, followed by Schumann's exciting and virtuosic “Viennese Carnival Jest” in the first half. The theme in the second half is water, fire and earth: Ravel's “Gaspard de la Nuit,” a landmark in 20th century piano music, features the water nymph Ondine in the opening movement, who draws her observer to a triangle of water, fire and earth. The program ends with Scriabin's intensely luminous “Toward the Flame.”
