Henry B. Plant Museum

Come experience the grandeur of an extravagant Victorian palace that opened in 1891 as the Tampa Bay Hotel and is now a National Historic Landmark. Magnificent Moorish architecture, opulent furnishings, and tropical gardens will transport you back in time. Outstanding Museum Store. Accredited by the American Association of Museums.  Projects include: Sunday afternoon theatre at 2:00 p.m., Victorian Christmas Stroll in December, monthly Antiques Evaluations Saturdays, lectures and outreach to schools, civic and social organizations.  Hand held audio tour-wand is complimentary with museum admission.

Plant Museum March 30-December 23, 2012 Orientalism was at its height during the Gilded Age. By 1854, Commodore Matthew C. Perry had opened the island of Japan to the Western world. Victorians were eager to explore and consume Japan’s exotic culture. Japanese exhibits at World’s Fairs and International Expositions brought their art and culture into Victorian parlors.     Military Families Day Henry B. Plant Museum Military Families Day Presented by Henry B. Plant Museum at Henry B. Plant Museum May 27, 2012 In honor of Memorial Day Weekend, the Museum remembers those who have served our country by inviting all active or retired military personnel and their families into the Museum as our guests. In addition, at 2 pm the Museum’s Upstairs/ Downstairs at the Tampa Bay Hotel Live Theatre series will feature Henry Dobson, who was a 20 year-old volunteer soldier when he was encamped with his regiment in Tampa for several weeks prior to the outbreak of the Spanish- American War in 1898....

Plant Museum announced the launch of Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,500 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2012.
