Composer/lyricist, pianist/vocalist, recording/concert artist, writer/speaker/educator Joy Katzen-Guthrie is devoted to uplifting and empowering through the arts. A Memphis native who has made her home in the Tampa Bay area since 1981, she contributes to programs of musical, cultural, historical, and spiritual content. Joy serves as a Cantorial Leader and an artist/scholar-in-residence for synagogues and Unity/New Thought congregations. She serves Congregation Beth Am of Tampa (reform) and is an active concert and studio artist, instructor of adult education, workshop leader, and contributor to worship services. She is also a long-time member of the Unity of Palm Harbor music team and formerly served as Music Director for Unity of Today in north Tampa for nearly a decade. Joy presents a wide range of spiritual programs for individuals of all ages for synagogues, churches, and spiritual groups and institutions.
In her live concert retrospectives, Joy uniquely weaves history and storytelling with traditional, contemporary, and original songs. She has a repertoire of some 4,000 songs from pop, stage, film, and world genres in addition to her original music and an extensive knowledge of entertainment culture and history. She has received appointments to the Florida Artist Residency Directory, funded by the State Division of Cultural Affairs, and has been awarded two arts resource fund performance arts grants from the Pinellas County Arts Council.
With her husband Mark, Joy operates a professional recording studio, Tune-of-the-Century Music®, as well as Broadcast Studio Design/Integration services and sound reinforcement services.
