Detailed drawings offer intimate look at artist’s concept and work process
In Black and White, artist Jake Fernandez exhibits large drawings that clearly illustrate the artist’s concept and the detailed process that leads to the completion of major large-scale paintings and room-sized installations. In a statement about his work, Jake says, “My goal is to extract and render forms from the landscape that are ephemeral and beyond the boundaries of our ordinary human perception. Through these drawings I’m attempting to uncover and explain the hidden mystery of the never seen.”
Born in Havana, Cuba, Jake Fernandez received his BFA from University of Florida and an MFA from the University of South Florida. His artwork is in many Permanent Collections around the US including American Express Corporation and IBM Corporation, New York, NY; Institute for Research in Art, Tampa, FL; Snite Museum of Art at University of Notre Dame, Indiana and Yancey Brothers Corporation in Atlanta, GA to name a few. Jake has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums around the country and currently splits his time between Florida and New York.
