Saturday, January 12

5-9:30pm
Duncan Mcclellan Gallery 2342 Emerson Ave South

Join us as we welcome renowned Seattle Glassblowers Shelley Muzylowski Allen and Rik Allen.

The Allens create uniquely sculptural art, using glass as their chosen medium.

Shelley Allen suspends her sculpted figures in moments of tension, recalling myths and legends through animal forms. She strives to bring a painterly quality to this dynamic medium by layering color to add depth to her pieces as they are being made. The textures and patterns have the fluidity and gesture of brushwork and enrich the strong, three-dimensional form.

While many of Rik Allen’s pieces have a reference to his curiosity for science and nature, they also convey humor, simple narratives, and a lightheartedness that is embodied in much of science fiction’s antiquated vision of the future.

Both Rik and Shelley Muzylowski Allen’s work is exhibited throughout the world, and is in major collections nationally and internationally.

This is a rare chance to see glass blowers of this stature create work here in the Tampa Bay Area.
