Handbuilding is an ancient pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, using the hands, fingers, and simple tools. Students can experiment with paper clay, self-hardening clay, or ceramic/pottery clay. Join us for a fun and relaxing open studio where attendees will work on their own projects. Please bring: your own clay (or purchase clay at the LEC) and the items listed on our materials list:
Sturdy poster board or cardboard (for work platform and to transport pieces to and from home)
Aluminum foil (1 roll)
Parchment paper (1 roll)
Acrylic paints, including metallic paints
Cheap, hard-bristle paint brushes
Aleene’s Tacky Glue
Styrofoam (balls, eggs, sheets)
Wood (dowels, bbq skewers)
Wire (for hanging pieces)
Miscellaneous clay tools (dental tools, popsicle sticks, etc.)
Please note: Students using ceramic/pottery clay are responsible for firing their own pieces (we recommend Off the Wall Ceramics).
