Dance in the Time of Coronavirus is the creative brain child of Andee Scott and Amanda Sieradzki, dance-makers in the Tampa Bay Area who are dreaming of ways to re-envision dance performance in the age of social distancing. Scott and Sieradzki believe in the value of live performance and the responsibility of artists to rise to the challenges of our time. This series emphasizes the importance of building a community for art and artists that reinforces our shared humanity; our intention is to be as inclusive as possible while taking safe, responsible, and respectful measures.
Covid-19 has changed how we live our lives, where we go, what we do – rather than focus on all the things we cannot do during this time, we are seizing this as an opportunity to create and share new models for performing dance that support our community safely, respectfully, and creatively. Dance is life. Art heals.
We offer these dances in memorial to all who have lost their lives, a loved one, a member of their community. We offer these dances in gratitude for all those who are working on the front lines – our heroes named and unnamed who care for and whose work provides for others. We offer these dances in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and in support of social justice. We offer these dances as hope for a kinder and more equitable future.
