Florida Conversations: Shadows of World War I
Please note, this event has expired.
Tampa and St. Petersburg may have seemed far removed from the battlefields of Somme and Verdun, but the tensions generated by the war in Europe and concerns about “The Hun” in Florida profoundly affected the lives of local German Americans and Cuban cigar makers, women suffragists and Baptist ministers. Dr. Gary Mormino and Andy Huse explain out how the war threw shadows over the Sunshine State and the Tampa Bay area.
Underwritten by the Tampa Bay History Center endowment fund at USF, with media support by WUSF Public Media. The series is co-sponsored by the USF Libraries Florida Studies Center and the History Center.
Florida Conversations is free and open to the public.
