See how Floridians celebrate different holidays. Do you now about the”Green Corn Dance”?
On holidays we commemorate significant historical events, celebrate new years or
new seasons, or honor our heritage. Using photographs from the past and present,
Holiday Traditions in Florida examines how Floridians have celebrated these special
days. While not intended to be an exhaustive list, the exhibit covers a wide variety
of holidays observed in Florida.
Many holiday customs have roots in the ancient past. However, some holidays and
their traditions have come about fairly recently. The variety of holiday traditions in
Florida reflects the state’s cultural and ethnic diversity. Although Floridians may
celebrate different holidays or have different customs, holidays help to unite family,
friends, and neighbors and to strengthen our common bonds
Exhibit runs thru December 29. Museum open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm
