Presented by Pangaea Project, inc. at The Venture Compound, St. Petersburg FL

Hyperbolic Chamber Music: 6: Ampere (Victor Pons - Percussion + Electronics)

Founded in 2014 by Grace Juliano (Florida Orchestra), Sean Hamilton (USF New-Music Consortium) and Jesse Thelonious Vance (The Venture Compound), the Hyperbolic Chamber Music series seeks to redefine the boundaries of classical music by bringing contemporary repertoire into unique settings outside of the traditional concert hall. The series serves as a new forum for a new audience for new music where performers can present cutting-edge music to listeners in the Tampa Bay area.

For this installment, modern percussionist Victor Pons will perform works by Eduardo Campos, Laurent Durupt, Karlheinz Essl, Sean Hamilton, Baljinder Sekhon, Geoff Sheil, and Steven Snowden.

Victor Pons “stretches the bounds of electronics and vibraphone” -ArtsATL. He is dedicated to advancing new music in confluence with today’s technological trends. The Goat Farm Arts Center describes him as being “amongst the radicals reshaping musical parameters.” His particular interest is in performing new works with live electronics with an emphasis on vibraphone. Before moving to Illinois he was honored as one of Atlanta’s 30 under 30 for his work with vibraphone and electronics. In 2014 he was selected for three performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Two solo works were presented at PASIC Tech Day 2.0 and a chamber work at PASIC Focus Day 2014. In 2015 his lecture recital “Ampere: Performing Intuitively With Electronics” was presented at Transplanted Roots: Percussion Research Symposium in Montreal, QC.

Victor has a unique background in percussion performance, electroacoustic techniques and sound art. He has studied Max/MSP, SuperCollider, Csound, DISSCO (Digital Instrument for Sound Synthesis and Composition) and advanced electroacoustic studio techniques under the mentoring of Scott Wyatt, Heinrich Taube, Sever Tipei and Robert Scott Thompson.
