Join us for a day of puppet fun! This year’s National Day of Puppetry Celebration will take place on Saturday, March 19, from 11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. at New Tampa Regional Library. It all begins at 11:00 a.m. with Make ‘n Take Puppet Crafts.
At 11:45 A.m., you’ll be treated to a fantastic peformance by Rick Morse Puppets and their production of “Sleeping Beauty.” The green fairy Dyspepsia is furious as she wasn’t invited to the baby princess’s party! Will she curse the innocent princess to sleep forever, or will the bumbling good fairy Euphoria foil Dyspepsia’s nefarious plan? Therein lies this hilarious tale! The show is presented by one man, Rick Morse, who portrays and voices every character, elicits delighted audience participation, and inspires laughter and learning through puppetry! Award-winning puppeteer Rick Morse holds degrees in education, theater, and Library Science and spent thirty years as a classroom teacher and theater director. He is well known for his sparkling sense of humor, wit, and love of children.
At 12:30 P.M.you can partake of Make n’Take Puppet Crafts or try your hand in the “Movement for Hand Puppets” workshop.
Our National Day of Puppetry continues at 1:15pm with a charming performance of “A Florida Cracker Cinderella” by Katie Adams and her Make Believe Theater. Puppeteer and Storyteller Katie Adams blends Florida culture into the twists and turns of Cinderella’s journey, accompanied by the nostalgic strains of hammered dulcimer music. Will “Ella” make it to the Spring Dance to meet Jasper Fairfied, the cattle rancher’s son? Through her own gumption, and the help of her magical fairy godmother, Ella foils the plans of her mean stepmother, and lives happily ever after. The show features handcrafted rod puppets, storytelling, and audience participation.
