We are pleased to present: Rhonda Massel Donovan
Please join us Friday July 29th at Red Door No. 5 for our very first artist showcase. Doors open at 7pm.
This emerging artist was born and grew up in the New Orleans area, and brings that city’s innovative spirit to her work. Her early studies were in Louisiana at Southeastern and LSU, with more recent studies at the University of South Florida, Tampa. Spanning a lifetime, her education has proven to enrich her love of art and it’s ability to affect the hearts and minds of the viewer. She sees making art as a great responsibility, and not always an easy choice, but worth the effort every time. With only a few credits remaining to complete her studies at USF, Donovan’s focus has always been on human interaction.
For this artist the materials can be manipulated to convey her thoughts about human truth. Layers of texture, color, and varying degrees of defined spaces reinforce the ambiguity produced by the push and pull of that interaction. The ability to create and destroy, to save and abandon, and to wound and heal are the defining moments, which can change in a minute. Studying these effects through the use of various media and surfaces communicates her language of revealing how people see themselves in contrast to how the world sees them. After working for many years in the Tampa Bay area on commissions which led to a variety of genre, she chose to use her observations of the world to feed her passion and desire to communicate, which can be seen in her selective moments to tear, to break, to weave, and to mend.
