The College of Arts and Letters is proud to have been competitively selected as a screening partner for the 2018-19 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, a program facilitated by the non-profit regional arts organization South Arts. The Southern Circuit is about connecting audiences and filmmakers in a communal experience. Each film screening includes an opportunity for the audience to participate in a Q&A with the filmmaker, further exploring the content of the film or their work in the industry.
CAL faculty members traveled to Atlanta to select the films that will screen on campus. UT’s participation in the series is funded through a generous grant from the UT Board of Fellows. The series will bring six cutting-edge films and their directors to UT this academic year.
Farmsteaders is as much a study of place as it is a study of persistence. Having abandoned a career as a food processing engineer at General Mills, Nick returns home, the prodigal son, and he, his wife Celeste and their young family resurrect his late grandfather’s dairy farm. Heroic, benign and accessible, Nick and Celeste’s meditations on life, legacy, and resistance offer an unexpected voice from a forsaken people – those who grow the food that sustains us.
