Acclaimed Boston-based artist Steve Locke exhibiting at Gallery 221@HCC!
Gallery 221@HCC is pleased to announce the opening of steve locke: the color of remembering, on view January 22 – March 7, 2019.
Steve Locke (b. 1963 in Cleveland, OH) is a Boston-based artist whose work examines violence, racism, love, sex, and identity. In the color of remembering at Gallery221@HCC, Locke directly confronts issues of race and violence in the United States—both past and present—through a selection of photographs from his series Family Pictures and an installation of Three Deliberate Grays for Freddie (A Memorial for Freddie Gray). Locke is currently an Associate Professor at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 24 from 5:00-8:00pm with an artist talk with Camilo Alvarez scheduled to begin at 6:00pm. The event will take place on the 2nd floor of the Learning Resources Center / Library building (DLRC), HCC Dale Mabry Campus. Food, libations, and music will be provided for free, courtesy of the gallery.
The event is free and open to the public; parking is also free on campus in any open lot.
*Gallery 221@HCC is a proud partner of the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival. the color of remembering will be featured with the TBBHF as an event called “Living History.”
