Theo's Inferno – Dance Party Fundraiser
Please note, this event has expired.
The MFA’s Marly Room will transform into 1980s Ybor City to celebrate the late Theo Wujcik’s popular dance parties with a fundraiser of punk & new wave music hosted by the MFA’s support group, The Contemporaries.
The Contemporaries of the Museum of Fine Arts are throwing a party that befits Theo Wujcik’s legacy, and celebrates the current exhibition, Theo Wujcik: Cantos. In addition to his roles as innovative master printer and distinguished painter, Wujcik was known for his love of late-night dance parties and his punk rock DOINK parties of the 1980s. Join us for a 2019 version…we’re calling it Theo’s Inferno. All proceeds benefit contemporary programming at the Museum of Fine Arts.
DJ Gabe Echazabal will spin Theo’s favorite punk and new wave tunes. Ybor City-themed food will be provided, along with an open beer bar.
VIP tickets grant early entry to the exhibition, with a private gallery talk by Wujcik’s widow Susan Johnson and MFA Curator of Contemporary Art Katherine Pill. The educational meets the social at Contemporaries events, and the evening begins with a viewing of the special exhibition, which focuses on Wujcik’s long-term series of paintings inspired by Italian poet Dante Alighieri’s (1265-1321) Inferno, the first part of the epic poem Divine Comedy.
