Tour de Clay
Pottery demonstrations, kiln openings and clay artwork at this free event.
The weekend of Dec. 10-11 brings together four Tampa Bay pottery studios and 26 professional clay artists for the ninth annual Tour de Clay.
This free event attracts pottery lovers, arts and crafts fans and people looking for something new to do with a unique, self-guided tour. Pottery demonstrations and kiln openings are scheduled at each studio on Saturday. Plus, tour goers can buy unique clay artwork and dinner pieces directly from the artists, which make for unique and beautiful holiday gifts.
Tour de Clay studio stops are at Pottery Boys Studio, 30 Bogie Lane in Palm Harbor; Hidden Lake Pottery, 16705 Hutchinson Rd. in Odessa; Wellman & Welsch Pottery, 17202 Whirley Rd. in Lutz; and San Antonio Pottery, 11903 Curley Road in San Antonio.
Hours are Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with kiln openings at 9 a.m.at Pottery Boys Studio, 12 noon at Hidden Lake Pottery, 2 p.m. at Wellman & Welsh Pottery and 4 p.m. at San Antonio Pottery. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to kiln openings, every stop on the Tour de Clay allows visitors to watch artists at work in their studios, see pottery made by hand or by wheel, learn about the many types of kilns and firing techniques, and see examples of different glazes and finishes for finely crafted decorative pieces as well as functional vessels and dinnerware.
