Carrollwood Players Theatre announces open auditions for Godspell. Book by John Michael Tebelak. Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

Directed by Ann Lehman

A Mainstage Musical Production

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables with games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing.
An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage.
Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life. Led by the international hit, “Day by Day,” Godspell features a parade of beloved songs.

***AUDITION REQUIREMENTS/DETAILS***
The first two nights of auditions will consist of singing and dancing. Please prepare 16 measures of a song in the style of the show (but NOT from the show.) You may bring sheet music in the correct key or provide a backing track on your device with a standard headphone jack. An accompanist will be available.
Please wear comfortable attire and be prepared to learn and perform a short dance routine.
Do you play a musical instrument? If you do, please bring your instrument and be prepared to show us what you can do. We are interested in the possibility of casting quadruple threats who can sing, dance, act, and play an instrument, though this not required. We are specifically interested in stringed instruments such as guitar, ukulele, banjo, violin, etc. but are open to other possibilities. This is NOT a requirement to be cast in this show.
Callbacks will consist of cold readings from the script and you may be asked to learn and sing a brief selection from the show.
***AVAILABLE ROLES***
All ethnicities are encouraged to audition for all roles. We are seeking actors 18+ years of age for all roles.
Jesus- Charismatic individual, high energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. He is the sort of person others instinctively follow
John the Baptist/Judas- He has attribute of both Biblical figures, he is both Jesus’ lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is also charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary way. Usually played by someone handsome and masculine, with an undertone of sexuality. He is the most “serious” and intellectual of the group, though as with all the actors, he must still posses a good sense of physical comedy.
The following members of the “community” will use their own names, but for now:
Nick- very high energy, impish and playful.
Telly- not the brightest in the bunch he is a little slow on the uptake, but there is a great sweetness and innocence about him. Needs to be a good singer.
George- the comedian, the class clown. The guy who can do a hundred voices and imitations.
Anna Maria- a bit of a tomboy, but basically open and sweet. Perhaps the youngest of the group.
Lindsay- the confident one, the show off. The first one to volunteer, sometimes she jumps in before she really understands what’s going on.
Uzo- the shy one, sometimes a little slow to get things, but when she does, she commits all the way. Has an “earth mother” kind of warmth to her.
Morgan-sassy and slightly cynical, the most urban of the group. Also the “sexy” one, but her sexiness contains a large element of put on, in the manner of Mae West.
Celisse-The female class clown. Goofy and a cut up.
