Overview of the Arts Council
The Arts Council supports and promotes arts and culture including lifelong learning and cultural enrichment programs that benefit citizens of Hillsborough County. The Council is the designated local arts agency by the State of Florida and is a special district of Hillsborough County governed by a 15-member board appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. See the Council's three-year Strategic Plan.
Other programs and services of the Arts Council include:
We understand the importance of the creative economy. The Arts Council works with the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, Florida Cultural Alliance, Americans for the Arts and other agencies to advocate on behalf of artists and cultural organizations. The Arts Council is an active arts advocate in legislative and policy matters at all levels of government.
The Council publishes an annual printed Guide to Arts and Culture for Hillsborough County as well as this ArtsTampaBay online calendar of events and a periodic email newsletter featuring upcoming events.
The ArtsTampaBay.com calendar features entertainment, recreational and educational art events throughout Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties. Listings are searchable by type of event, date, location, and keyword. If you want thousands of people to consider your events when making their entertainment plans, post them here. Providing a comprehensive entertainment calendar for the Tampa Bay region, ArtsTampaBay is a one-stop guide for locals and visitors alike. We sincerely hope that you will take advantage of the many cultural events that we have to offer.
Please post your entire season and add new events as soon as you know when they will be. Often magazines and other media outlets use this calendar to plan stories, and their deadlines may be months in advance. And, we'll maximize the marketing value by publishing the event for you on our partner sites -- Clearwater Arts Alliance, St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and the Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts. No need to visit multiple sites to promote your event.
ARTS LICENSE PLATE
The Council invited artists statewide to submit a design for an arts license plate which was approved during the 1994 Florida Legislature. The sale of the plates raises funds that are directed back to the county in which they were sold specifically to support the arts in that community. When you purchase a Florida State of the Arts license plate in Hillsborough County, a portion of the plate fee is returned to the Arts Council and reinvested in cultural programs.

These directories are an easy reference guide and networking tool for artists and arts organizations, and a handy reference for the community.

The Arts Council collected data throughout 2016 on the arts and economic prosperity which was analyzed by the Americans for the Arts data project and published in 2017.
