CATHERINE BENNETT has been painting watercolors professionally since 1986. She lives in Canastota, NY from May through October, and in Clearwater, Florida from November to April. She has held the position of Visual Arts Department Chair for the Metropolitan School for the Arts and has created and taught an art curriculum for Syracuse University, OCM BOCES, and the Syracuse City School District. Catherine has written art reviews for the Herald Journal Newspaper and been asked to present workshops for the Universal Education Foundation, the Bradford Group, and Art Haven.

She has served as a juror for the New York State Art Competition of the American Legion, and continues to teach adult art classes in both the Central New York region and at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Catherine is an associate member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, the Florida Watercolor Society, and the Largo Art Association. She is a signature member and Vice President of the Central New York Watercolor Society, and Executive Director of Artwork Ten LLC, the retail entity of her artworks.

She is included in the 2012 edition of Artbook Tampa Bay and in the Artbook Tampa Bay’s iPad app available June 2012 at the iTunes app store at She is the 2012 Winter/Spring featured cover artist in the Kaleidoscope magazine published in Akron, Ohio.

Catherine is listed in Who’s Who of American Artists, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who in America. Her artwork has been exhibited at the VIVA Gallery near Los Angeles, California for the National Watercolor Society Show, at Munson William Proctor Art Institute, at the Arkell Museum in Canajoharie and at the Everson Museum in Syracuse. Her work was included in Dunedin Fine Art Center’s 2012 satellite exhibit at the Bright House Network Corporate headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida. In mid-August of 2009, Catherine accepted a New York State Council on the Arts Grant award from Madison County. She is collected internationally across the globe from Burma, India; where she’s been commissioned to create portraiture; to Pescara, Italy; where patrons enjoy her Italian landscapes. She has won numerous gold medal, Best of Show awards in juried shows across the United States.

Her paintings exhibit a unique and masterly style. Some of Catherine’s most provocative work synthesizes portraiture with nature to create extremely interesting, camouflaged subjects. Her watercolors depict emotional experiences or memories that cross every ethnic barrier and unite us all in similarity. Strong light, bold values, and a sense of timeless mystery fill her work. Delicate subtleties in hue, glazed in transparent washes, with layers of poured paint describe her techniques. She is inspired to capture nature’s perfection and interfuse it with the never ending, ever powerful human spirit.
