The Tampa Oratorio Singers’ spring concert will feature the “Missa in B Minor” by Johann Sebastian Bach and Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna”, with professional soloists and orchestra.
The “Missa in B Minor” BWV 232, is a Kyrie-Gloria Mass in B Minor composed in 1733 by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is a short Mass consisting of a Kyrie in three movements and a Gloria in nine movements.
Bach later incorporated the Missa into the Mass in B Minor, composed in the last years of his life.
The Missa will be paired in concert with a performance of Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna”.
Lauridsen uses modern harmonies throughout the five movements of “Lux Aeterna” to express references to light from sacred Latin text. Themes of healing, consolation and renewal are resonant in this modern choral work.
Tickets may be purchased on line at www.tostampa.org, or at the door on the day of the event. The doors open 1 hour prior to the concert start time.
Tickets are $20 general admission; $15 for senior citizens and $10 for students with ID. Children 12 and under are free.
