Periphery Media, in connection with the USF Humanities Institute and the Portico invite all artists to submit 2D and 3D pieces for a juried exhibition centering on the theme of how we make a place a home. This exhibition is the final event in a series that began with a speaking engagement by Matthew Desmond, author of “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City”. In his Pulitzer-winning book, Mr. Desmond describes the failure of the American public housing system and the resilience of those forced to survive within it. Those chronicled struggle to keep a roof over their families’ heads yet always find ways to make their often terrible houses a home. This exhibition takes inspiration from those men, women and children. We hope that artists will submit work that speaks to their experience, pleasant or not, of “home.”
Submissions are being accepted until December 20, 2019. The opening reception will occur on January 24, 2020 at the Portico Meeting Hall, 1001 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33602. See the website for submission details.
